Changelog

What changed,
and when.

New features, small improvements and fixes, newest first. The app updates itself — there is nothing to install.

September 2026

  1. Comments

    • Leave notes on your own words or paragraphs, and reply to them in a thread
    • Comments export to Markdown as CriticMarkup, and you can choose whether to include them
    • A roomier page: longer lines, looser letter spacing and more line spacing
  2. Smoother everyday use

    • Updates install quietly in the background, and you return to where you left off
    • The sign-in screen now leads with the free trial
    • Fixed a loop where a refused sign-in kept asking again
  3. E-books and text size

    • Export to e-book (.epub)
    • Rich text (.rtf) export is now included in both plans
    • Choose your text size: Small, Medium or Large
    • The library is now one simple list of documents

August 2026

  1. Journals

    • Keep a diary that’s encrypted in your browser, so not even our server can read it
    • Journals get a shelf of their own and a lock
    • See when a document is open on another device. Only one window writes at a time, and you can take over when you need to
    • Changes from your other devices show up live
  2. Launch

    • Soft launch with a 60-day free trial that includes every feature
    • Public terms, privacy and refund pages
    • New welcome and confirmation emails
    • Deleting your account now removes it completely
    • Cookieless usage stats that never touch your writing, and you can opt out
  3. Master documents and mobile

    • Nest documents inside one another as chapters, and export the whole thing as one file
    • Open chapters for a quick edit without leaving the master document
    • Import and export Word (.docx) files
    • Library search finds text inside your documents, not just titles
    • A formatting bar and keyboard handling built for phones
    • A word count that tells you what you actually want to know
  4. Spellcheck and new writing modes

    • A built-in spellchecker for 42 languages, with a personal dictionary that syncs between devices
    • Each document remembers its own language
    • Writing modes renamed to Document, Paragraph, Sentence and Markdown, and each document remembers its own mode
    • Settings redesigned with one topic per pane
    • Import from .md, .txt and .rtf
  5. Writing that’s never lost

    • Your work is saved on your device first and works offline
    • When two devices disagree, both versions are kept, so nothing gets overwritten

July 2026

  1. Markdown and mobile

    • Markdown mode: write straight in the source, using the same Markdown dialect as iA Writer
    • The app now works on phones
    • Pick your typefaces: Classic or Modern
    • The Structure panel: your document’s outline, with filtering and drag-to-reorder
    • Fold sections away from their headings
    • Pin documents to the top of the library
    • Install the app and use it in its own window
  2. A new look

    • A new design system throughout the app
    • A new account and billing menu
  3. Block versions and export

    • Block versions: keep alternative takes of a paragraph or heading
    • Export to Markdown, RTF and PDF, with title and byline
    • A library with folders, plus moving and renaming
    • Paste Markdown straight into the editor
  4. First version

    • A distraction-free editor with autosave
    • Sign in with email or Google, with cloud sync
